2024 – 2025!

2024

Last year can be called another succes again for the Bunker Museum Antwerp with more than 1500 visitors in the 22 regular open days we had. During 81 guided tours, more than 700 visitors were added, including an increasingly international audience. In March, vzw Frontleven (and friends) helped again to transform the site into a Living Museum, where hundreds of visitors came by. A nice turnout, as was the case in June with the Bunker Day in Belgium. We received local donations of objects and even from abroad, saw many old acquaintances and of course many new faces.
A big thanks to all volunteers, friends, donors, partners and of course the many visitors for this beautiful result!

A look at our more recent news reports shows that with the 80th anniversary commemoration there were again many small to large initiatives with the message that we as an organization share as a core task: "Lest we forget". We would like to congratulate all driving forces and their helping hands, and of course all those were present at these initiatives!

Antwerp X, Putte.

1st V-Bomb, Schilderstraat.

5de Linieregiment, City Park.

Antwerp under the V-bombs", expo Steenbergstraat.

Liberation Days, Scheldekaaien.

Liberation, Cromwell tank.

Names Monument, Scheldekaaien.

“Forgotten Heroes”, City Hall.

V2 Cinema Rex, De Keyserlei.

Just like last year, we would like to share some examples of our T-shirts in a distant and/or special place. At the top of the article you could already see it in Malta where volunteer Rudy went on holiday, just like Antwerp through the centuries of great strategic importance and also extensively provided with all kinds of fortifications. Earlier, an expert in this matter from Malta also visited our museum, click here for his Facebook page on WW2 sites on the island. From the Philippines we got a more tropical photo from Willy Otto, also good for a new record regarding the distance. Thanks gentlemen!

... 2025!

For the new year, a good number of reservations have already come in for guided tours, well on our way to hopefully a new record. From February, as usual, you can come and take a look every first weekend of the month.

This year the open weekend in March will also be a “Living Museum” edition in collaboration with the re-enactors of the npo Frontleven, about which more soon!

After organizing several W.W.2 walks on request near the museum and in the city center, we are considering offering them ourselves this year if there is enough interest. Hereby we already make a first call to possible interested parties, send us a message via the contact form and we will keep you informed first.

Depending on the responses, we will of course come back to this sooner or later with the exact options and details.

In 2025 there will of course be 80th anniversary commemorations until the end of WWII, first in early May in the West and August also in the Far East. However, the German surrender came only 5 weeks after the last V-bomb fell on Antwerp. That, despite her liberation in September 1944, the first three months of 1945 were still very deadly in Antwerp is proven like no other by Paula's gravestone in our collection. She died in the Steenbergstraat, where friend of the museum Filip Maes has organized an exhibition on the impact and V-bombs several times in recent years. He will do this on the 80th anniversary as well, with Koen Palinckx present to talk about the theme. The available places are of course limited but if you are interested do let us know and we will ask Filip if there is still room.

In March, a temporary exhibition about the V-weapons and the region will also open in Fort Liezele. A perfect opportunity to (re)visit the beautiful fort and museum, which just like our museum is also blessed with a beautiful park environment. We will of course keep you informed about this.

Thank you for your interest and best wishes!
