Bunker type designed in 1942 as accommodation for 2 “gruppen” of infantrymen, a group usually consisted of about 10 soldiers. The 2 rooms each had a heater and ventilation/filter device, at each entrance there were also 2 niches for antennas. You can click on the plan above to view the layout and content in more detail. The R622 was built very often on the Atlantic Wall, one can also be found in the Antwerp City Park.
For the headquarters in Parc den Brandt two of them were built in 1943, on the Wilrijkse square near the R618 communication bunker. The 3d image above shows the northernmost example to which a brick extension was added. Both examples also had the left room subdivided with a brick wall.
