For Open Monument Day 2026, a rare bunker will be opened to the public for the first time.
In addition to the bunkers in Park den Brandt itself, three more were built on Wilrijkse Plein: two Type 622 troop bunkers and one Type 618 communications bunker. The latter will be open to the general public for the first time at OMD 2026 – an opportunity not to be missed!
Only a handful of these types of communications bunkers have survived making them, like most other types of bunkers at headquarters, extremely rare now. On our "618" page you can find out a bit more about it.
The theme of this year’s event is ‘In good hands’, which shines a spotlight on the many volunteers who dedicate themselves to heritage. As our organisation, too, consists entirely of unpaid volunteers, we can only wholeheartedly endorse this gesture of appreciation – they really are priceless!
We're also supported with the opening of the 618 bunker by our good partner and neighbour, Olympia Hockey Club. They are delighted with the project and, above all, resulting enhancement of the bunkersite.
On Open Monument Day, the communications bunker can be visited from 10:00 to 17:00 hrs. It can be reached on foot via Jasmijnstraat; follow this street through the gate of the sports ground and, 90 metres further on, you will see it on your right.
The museum bunker in Park den Brandt, about a quarter of an hour’s walk from the 618 bunker, will also be open on 13 September for the standard admission price of 5 euro.
