Bunkertje Stenenbrug – 8 mei

On the 8th of May a poem will be revealed at one of the smallest of Antwerp's bunkers.

A while ago we were asked if we could confirm whether this construction at the Stenenbrug was built in WW2 and on whose terrain it would be located. A good source to do this is a report from the Ministry of Defence about German constructions on railway terrain. With this we confirmed it's origin and likely owner.

Now we received more information from Wilfried Defillet about the initiative that will be organised there:

On Thursday 8 May, Liberation Day, we will unveil the poem 'Seed of Hatred'. The poem deals with the vicious circle of war that continues to evoke hatred and retaliation. The unveiling will take place at 12:00; There will be short speeches by Mariam El Osri, district mayor of Borgerhout and Koen Huybreghts, employee of 'project Scars'..”
Wilfried will read the poem himself and informed us that all are welcome.

For about 25 years, the Bunker Museum Antwerp has been trying to develop the largest Antwerp bunker site as an active monument for study, commemoration and reflection. We are of course pleased to see that also this very small piece of Antwerp W.W.2 heritage will be used for this purpose at the 80th commemoration of 8 May 1945.
