About us
Who?
The Bunker Museum Antwerp is a collaboration between the city of Antwerp and the npo Bunkermuseum Antwerp, formerly npo Bunker & Vliegtuig Archeologie Antwerpen. As the owner of the bunkers, the city makes them available to the npo, which consists entirely of unpaid volunteers, by means of a concession.
What?
The non-profit organization Bunkermuseum Antwerp aims to preserve the Antwerp Atlantic Wall heritage and thus also the memory of the decisive role of Antwerp during WWII.
The crucial role of its port also brought with it a heavy toll under the V-weapons, which is why the airwar also receives extensive attention in the museum, research and collection management.
The organisation does this by:
_Restoration, conservation and management of 11 bunkers in Park den Brandt and Wilrijkse Plein.
_Curating and managing the museum, as well as its own collection, guided tours and events.
_Sharing expertise, documentation and/or assistance to organizations and individuals.
_Gathering, storing and sharing of stories, documents and/or objects about W.W.2 and Antwerp.
Where?
The museum is located in the bunkers of Parc den Brandt (see page "location"). We have also been able to open one of the bunkers in the Antwerp City Park to the public several times at the request of the city. Be sure to subscribe to the newsletter so you don't miss events in the museum or at other locations.
Why?
Among all the fascinating Antwerp history to be found in the city, the story of its decisive role and heavy toll in W.W.2 should certainly not be missing. Historical Atlantic Wall sites such as in park den Brandt or the City Park offer an unique environment to keep the memory alive in a fascinating way for a broad local and international audience. Since there are fewer and fewer direct witnesses of W.W.2, it is also important to try to preserve as many stories, documents and objects as possible, preferably with some background. Here too, the organization hopes, and proves, to be a point of contact to help save things from oblivion or ending up in the trash, itself or by looking for a suitable candidate.
