Living Museum, with succes!

With hundreds of visitors in and around the museum, the opening weekend of March was another great special edition.

This is of course largely due to the contribution of the many re-enactors who helped us show multiple bunkers to the public which they had turned into living buildings. As n.p.o. we thank all visitors, re-enactors and our own volunteers for their support and efforts to create a wonderful weekend together, a museum that lives!

The American troops moved into a large SK1 bunker where they installed their field kitchen at the front. This provided all the re-enactors with a warm meal throughout the weekend.

Their telephone exchange and a mortar position were also located here.

The German troops were housed in the smaller VF bunkers where, in addition to the regular soldiers, one could also encounter field gendarmes, medical troops, a team from the propaganda company and even the general and his staff officers.

The German communications post was placed in the VF personnel bunker, recognizable by the red flag with a white F for “Fernsprecher” (telephone). The sign with “Feldgendarmerie” indicates that the military police also stayed here.

In and around the VF hospital bunker the medical troops could be found who jumped into action when a patrol returned with wounded. The propaganda men also stayed here, representing an important aspect of any war as we can still see clearly in our own day and age.

It was not the first time propaganda troops of re-enactor group “Kampfgruppe Bockman” joined Frontleven v.z.w. at one of our events. It should come as no surprise that they also took a series of beautiful photos, some examples of which are found below ( click here for more of their photos )
